To get the most out of your Kindle, you don't have to limit yourself to Amazon's books. In this guide, you'll learn how to convert many additional ebook formats for the Kindle and where to find free ebooks.
Amazon's Kindle is a terrific ebook reader, but it's tethered to Amazon's ecosystem. You can use an app on a tablet or smartphone to expand your collection, but with the E Ink Kindles (such as the Paperwhite and Oasis), you're stuck with Amazon's offerings.
Well, to be fair. You may quickly and easily transfer ebooks in EPUB, Mobi, and PDF formats to your Kindle using free software. Let me show you how.
Email is the most convenient method for adding books to your Kindle. The email address for your Kindle may be found by using the PC's web browser to access amazon.com/myk. Select the Devices tab at the top of the window.
Find your Kindle device in the list below and click on it. Click [your name's] Kindle in the drop-down menu. Your @kindle.com email address will appear in the Device Summary on the next page. (You may modify the default address by clicking Edit.)
Re-open Preferences and look for Personal Document Settings on the left-hand side of the window. The Approved Personal Document Email List may be found by clicking the down arrow on the right. This is where you'll find your Amazon account's email address.
You're good to go as long as it is the email address you use to send Kindle books. Enter a new email address by clicking Add new authorized email address and typing in the desired address. Your Kindle must be connected to a Wi-Fi or 3G network for this to operate.
You've learned the basics of how to email an ebook to your Kindle, so the next step is to find out the format of your ebook.
However, even though Amazon no longer supports the Mobi format for new and updated reflowable ebooks in the Mobi format, current Mobi-format books may still be read by the Kindle. If your Kindle is connected to your PC through a USB cord, you may drag and drop the file onto your Kindle.
It's possible to have Amazon automatically convert PDFs to Kindle format, but you have two options. Kindles can show every page of a PDF as a graphic if the file is emailed directly to the e-email reader's address, which is what you should do.
That will keep the layout and pictures intact, but the text size may be too tiny to read for certain people. However, if you're good with this, you may drag and drop the file onto your Kindle using a USB cord connected to your PC.
You may also attach the PDF file to an email and set the subject line "convert"—just that word—as a way to convert it. Kindle's email address will turn your PDF into a Mobi file, allowing you to select the font size and formatting. You'll still have the visuals, but you'll lose the original PDF layout.
Kindle does not support EPUB, a widespread ebook format on the internet. The Kindle can read.epub files, so don't worry about that.
Caliber, a free program, is the key. It can reformat practically any ebook for most ebook readers and is available for both Windows and Macs, albeit it is not permitted to breach the copy protection on books purchased from Amazon or other shops.
After installing the software, it asks you what kind of e-reader you have, and a pop-up offers you the books. Enter the Kindle's email address and the approved email address you've selected to receive documents from your Kindle.
Add any free ebooks you've downloaded to Calibre by clicking the Add Books button. The Calibre library will have these. Select a book in your Calibre library and pick Convert Books from the top bar.
Go to your Kindle and hit Home >'' Your Library once you've sent your book. It may take a few minutes, but the ebook will display automatically if your Kindle is linked to Wi-Fi (or 3G).
You can see in the image above that I emailed myself a PS5-related PDF. The content will be much smaller if you don't include "convert" in your subject line.
Please do away with the ebook. To delete an ebook from your Kindle or Amazon account, tap the three dots at the bottom right of the book in Your Library and select Remove Download or Permanently Delete.
