How to Create A Digital ID with Adobe Acrobat?

This ID will be saved on your device (usually) indefinitely, enabling you to use it whenever you need to sign a PDF document. Other options include using an existing solution within your company (check with IT). While we go through the steps, you will also learn how to use a digital ID that you have obtained from another source.


Creating An Adobe Digital ID


Instead of a self-signed ID, a transaction between organizations that involves sensitive information must normally use one issued by a certificate authority.


  • To add a signature to a document in Acrobat, choose Preferences >'' Signatures from the Edit menu.
  • To see identities and trusted certificates, choose more from the menu that appears on the right.

  • Click the Next button after selecting the checkbox that reads A New Digital ID I Want to Create Now.
  • Choose the option to create a New Digital ID.
  • Click the Next button once you have decided where the digital ID will be stored by default (New PKCS).
  • Then click the Next button. Both the Signatures panel and the Signature field update to reflect the signer's name whenever a document is certified or signed. Please include your full name and the name of your company and department.
  • Keep the New PKCS as the Default Format.
  • On the next page, put in your name, the organizational unit you belong to (History), the name of your institution (Dartmouth College), and your email address.
  • If you don't want the file stored in the default place, you may choose a new one and then save the file. To protect the digital ID file with a password, type it in. Your password is constantly being evaluated by the password strength meter, which then displays the results of its analysis as a series of color patterns after each input. Check that your password is correct. Make up a password for it.
  • Hit the "Finish" button.

Adobe Reader Support For the Creation of a Digital Signature Field


  • Launch the application in which you must submit your digital signature.
  • To access other tools, choose them from the menu on the right.

Adobe Acrobat: The Process of Creating a Digital Signature Field



  • Launch the adobe acrobat application in which you must submit your digital signature.
  • To sign a document, choose Sign &'' Certify from the Tools menu on the right, then click Sign Document.

Signing a PDF with a Digital ID



  • Launch the application in which you must submit your digital signature.
  • In most cases, a flag will indicate "Sign Here." The window to Sign with a Digital ID will pop up when you click anywhere inside the field.
  • When you click the Sign with Digital ID button, a list of digital signatures that have been saved on this device will appear. If you have it saved in another location, you will need to use the Configure New Digital ID menu option and choose the option to Use a Digital ID from a file to locate it and get it.
  • Click the Continue button once you have chosen the Digital ID you want.
  • The Digital ID you have chosen will open so that you can validate that the signature shown is the one you want to use.

  • Click Sign.
  • You will, at long last, be requested to save the file, and that will be it.
