Combination laptop and tablet PCs provide the greatest flexibility among portable computers. They include a hinge that allows you to turn the screen back until the back of the screen rests on the base of the keyboard. This is a convenient feature. This enables you to utilize them in a variety of various ways, including the following:
There are various hardware configurations for the convertible laptop Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1. The version we reviewed here costs and comes with a 512GB solid-state drive, 16GB of RAM, and an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U CPU. The cost is reduced if the CPU is changed to a 5500U, and 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of solid-state storage are used instead of 512 GB. Alternately, you can upgrade the SSD within the standard that we've tested to 1 terabyte, even though the price will increase. All versions come standard with Windows 10 Home preinstalled with a 14-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels; however, they are ready to be upgraded to Windows 11.
The Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 model features we are reviewing have a list price of $1,049. However, it has regularly been available for $800 less during sales. Meanwhile, a Ryzen 5 5500U CPU, 256 gigabytes of storage space, and 8 gigabytes of random access memory are included in a configuration that costs $849. Because it is impossible to mix and match the technical specifications, your only alternative if you want extra storage or RAM is to get the higher-end model, which will cost you an additional $200. (In addition to the configurations we are not analyzing here, Dell also provides additional options on a limited budget using Intel CPUs.)
Just one color option is available for the Inspiron 14 2-in-1, and it's named "Mist Blue." However, this color is so muted that it only covers the metal lid of the device, and it's difficult to tell it apart from the grey matte plastic chassis below. This is a strong machine, even though it is made of plastic. When you grasp the laptop by its corners, you won't hear a single squeak, and the keyboard won't budge much when it's subjected to pressure.
The glossy finish and glass that extends to the edges of the 1080p touchscreen contribute to the luxurious appearance. When the device is in clamshell mode, the screen's bottom portion folds down under the keyboard part, creating a raised surface on which the user may type. In addition, the display can be rotated through a full 360 degrees into tablet mode and supports the use of a stylus; however, a pen is not included in the package.
The Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 has a keyboard that is of satisfactory quality. Although the keys have a low profile and do not provide a significant amount of travel, when depressed, they provide a pleasing jolt. I did not notice any of the squishiness or wobbliness common in keyboards with a lower price tag. In addition, they produce almost little audible noise and provide two different degrees of illumination.
The 720p camera on the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is nothing exceptional, much like the webcams found on other Windows laptops. When used in well-lit settings, it can be used for videoconferencing. However, the quality of the video captured is poor when the lighting is poor. The quality of the microphone is not very good either, which results in voices that have a thin tone.
You may obscure the camera by simply toggling a little switch above it. Tape is not required. The Inspiron 14 2-in-1 provides some of the loudest and punchiest music you'll find on a Windows laptop, which is another nice surprise about the quality of the speakers on this device. Even though there is some sound distortion when the volume is turned up to its maximum, you won't ever have to struggle to hear what's going on, whether listening to conference calls or viewing films.
The performance of the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is pretty much on par with what one would anticipate from a laptop equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U CPU. It easily ploughs through multi-threaded work like video encoding, and it seems zippy enough for online surfing and document processing. While switching back and forth between programs, internet tabs, and downloads on my laptop, neither the temperature nor the noise level increased much.
