Miracast to Mirror Your Device's Screen Wirelessly on Your TV

Miracast has lost some support due to the rise of alternative technologies. Continue reading to see how you may put Miracast to use for your business. The Miracast adapter must be connected to your TV or projector. Once you have established a connection to the adapter, the Display will reflect the contents on your screen.

How Miracast Works

Users can wirelessly mirror the Display of their Miracast-certified smartphone, tablet, or personal computer onto any Miracast-capable receiver, such as a television, projector, or monitor. What you see on your gadget will be shown on your television set (albeit with a smidgen of input lag). You may also utilize a Miracast display as your computer's additional monitor.

What You Need to Utilize Miracast

If you wish to take away the intermediaries in the streaming process, there is a catch you need to be aware of: both the device you already have and the device you want to show to need to support Miracast. Support for Miracast must be present on the device whose Display you want to duplicate. This support must be present in all three areas: the wireless chipset, the operating system, and the driver. If your device does not satisfy all three of these criteria, then you will need to update your computer's operating system and the Miracast adapter you use (more on that below). Miracast source adapters are often included in Miracast receiver kits, such as the ScreenBeam kit offered by Actiontec.

Receivers and Adapters for the Miracast Standard

On the other side of the equation, the receiver side, things may also become tricky. Miracast was added to high-end television sets by smart-TV manufacturers such as Sony, LG, Samsung, Toshiba, and Panasonic a few years ago. Certain projector manufacturers also added Miracast to their products around the same time. However, this does not mean that Miracast is already built into the TV or monitor that you currently own.

The Steps to Using Miracast

Turn on your Display now that you have a device capable of utilizing Miracast. If you use a streaming box or adapter, make sure that the proper input is selected. To turn on some adapters, such as the one made by Microsoft, you will need to click a power button that is physically situated on the dongle. The adapter may complete booting up in one minute and ninety seconds, but it will do so much more quickly in most cases. After that, a message will appear on your TV screen requesting that you connect a device. The next step is to go to the device that will serve as the signal source and connect it to the adapter.

Windows 10

In Windows 10, the ability to mirror your screen may be found in the "quick settings" area of the "Action Center." To open the Action Center, click the speech bubble symbol on the far right side of the taskbar. Next, click the Connect button towards the bottom of the screen. (If you do not see the button, click the Expand button located just above the area containing the fast settings.)

Your display device will either replicate what's happening on your computer or function as an additional monitor. Mirroring, monitor extension, and the ability to turn off your main PC display are the three options shown to you when you choose Change projection mode from the Windows 10 Connect menu. Miracast source adapters are often included in Miracast receiver kits, such as the ScreenBeam kit offered by Actiontec. The adapter may complete booting up in one minute and ninety seconds, but it will do so much more quickly in most cases. (A warning for those who utilize several monitors: if you choose to replicate the Display on your computer, each screen will display the same thing. Select Second-Screen Just if you only want to reflect your main Display on the mirrored screen.

Android

If you are using an older Android smartphone that can still support Miracast, you will need to go to the Settings menu, hit Display, and then touch Wireless Display. This will allow you to connect your handset to a wireless display. To find nearby Miracast devices, you may scan the area by toggling the "Wireless display" switch at the top of this page to the "ON" position. After one minute, you should see the name of your Miracast adapter appear on the screen. If you tap it, your device will either automatically connect, or it will request you for the PIN code shown on your TV or projector. The Miracast adapter must be connected to your TV or projector. Once you have established a connection to the adapter, the Display will reflect the contents on your screen.
